Went Kukup for a weekend getaway with Dear and friends. It was also as a celebration for a friend’s birthday. We took an 1 hour plus ride to get there. Once we reached there, we had lunch. Basically all meals there are seafood dishes and are all quite delicious.
After lunch, we proceeded to buy some fireworks for the night. Then, we walked about 10min to reach our place of accommodation. In Kukup, most of the family there earn a living by either fishing, selling Otak or renting out their houses to tourist who wants to have a different experience. Their houses are all built on stilts on the ocean near the coast.
This family we stayed with was one of the better ones with aircon for the whole house and nicer toilets. We heard of bad experience from another friend who went there reccently so we were lucky that we didnt have that kind of experience. Form of entertainment were mahjong, cards, karaoke, fishing, visit to kelong, fireworks and other things that you can do by the waterside.
Our day was spent singing songs and playing mahjong in the afternoon. During the night, we played fireworks and water bombs. Our host bbqed our dinner for us. We had alot of food ( stingray, satay, otak, sotong, prawns…) and quite a no. of thumbs up for their BBQ chicken wings.
Overall, it was a different experience and I had fun during the stay. Time to plan the next trip…
