Ragging in ACJC

Read this post in Ping.sg and I was shocked this is happening and wat is worse is that a student actually approves of this and posted it on his blog. Not that I disapprove of having fun, I even have a similiar situation in my NS life.

The situation:

It was a birthday of one of my campmates and this sadistic instructor ordered his best friends to strip the birthday boy down and did some things to him. Similar to the ACJC gal but worse (not going into details).

Reading the two post on Ping.sg on the ragging and student’s response –> http://alvinology.wordpress.com/2008/11/13/acjc-girl-gets-tied-up-and-tortured-by-friends-celebrating-her-birthday/ and http://www.j3tflame.blogspot.com/ .

I’m actually more surprised of the student’s reponse than the actually ragging. I mean sometimes birthday celebration comes in different surprises and maybe ragging is one of them. But I cant agree or see eye to eye with the Ja****’s thinking. He actually thinks it ok to humilate a friend (ok maybe not a friend but someone he dun like) and actually says that the gal should go commit suicide if she cant take the ragging. WTH?

As quoted from his blog “She would have gone for counseling, leave school and stay at home and not eat, turn anorexic and run away when she sees a cake, eventually culminating in her suicide.” He actually thinks it a gd way to rise about mocking by others and it will cultivate a sense of humor. That sense of humor I cannot understand. Wait till he gets in the similar situation. I would really love to be there to see it especially if it the way it dones in the army. Then, we will ask for his opinion again about ragging and his sense of humor.

Secondly, he keeps saying that ACJC is a place for elites and not a place for prudes. “ACJC is part of a school of elite JCs in Singapore which are not meant for prudes anyway.” So does that means he a cut above the rest? Elites are entitled to do things to others? In the first place is ACJC a place for elites? Can I say that he cant get into better JCs like National or Hua Chong and has to settle for ACJC? So does that make still make him an elite? I would really want to meet him in person – best if I can become his instructor in NS. Den we will really talk about HUMOR and ELITES.

Or could it be the failure or fault or our education system? We emphasize so much on results that we overlook moral education? I think this is something that we need to look at and correct. I think we are too much influenced by other countries cultures that we tend to overlook things like morals, etc.

What is the world coming to? Can anyone answer me?
